Credit Counseling
You might think credit counseling is only for people who have bad credit. That's only partially true, however. There are also other reasons people see out credit counseling.
What Can Credit Counseling Do?
Sometimes people realize that they need credit counseling before it's too late. Maybe you haven't missed any payments and you've always paid your bills on time, but you're nervous because your close to a point where you might miss a payment or you might be late with a payment. This is an excellent time to seek out credit counseling. An agent from a consumer credit counseling company can assess your financial situation and make suggestions about how to get a handle on your debt. The solution may be something as simple as cutting back on your spending and budgeting better. But the agent may also suggest something like a debt consolidation program or a dent settlement program. The type of program they suggest will depend on how much debt you have and what your resources are.
Advice from Credit Counseling
Most of us could benefit from talking to a credit counselor before venturing out into the world on our own for the first time. We would probably learn immediately how to use credit wisely, how to budget and even how to build a savings account. We might even learn that when we have kids, we should save for their future. We would think of the future in general, and instead of maxing out our credit cards, we'd be maxing out our IRA contributions! (After all, when you retire, your income decreases. Nobody can afford credit card debt when they're working, let alone when there's been a decrease in income!)
You don't have to have bad credit to participate in credit counseling. In fact, a dose of credit counseling now may be the preventive medicine you need for later.
